The developer DeanK has released a new update of Movian for PS3, remember that the project was developed by Andreas Oman (currently not updated) in stable version 5.0.703. As a reminder Movian is one of the best multimedia players that supports the most part of the platforms including the legendary PS3 console capable of reading video codecs, audio, images etc. We remind you that there is the Bleeding Edge version (for developers and beta testers) available with the latest changes from the source code.
The whole fix and changelog can be checked

Movian supports plugins installed from a centralized repository. Some of the most popular plugins are Youtube, Navi-X, Twitch.tv, OpenSubtitles, SVT Play.
For the complete list of available plugins see this link . The plugins are, by default, automatically updated in case of new versions.
Plug-in development is easy. See the PluginDevelopment wiki page for details.
It is a search that uses the toolbar on the home page and will search for all the plugins installed that support the search.
On PS3 and RPI, Movian can be updated within the program. In addition, the entire STOS operating system can also be updated on the RPI.
The user can choose to update and form three different tracks (in Settings -> General):
Stable – more stable version.
Test – Upgraded about two weeks due to changes and the risk of serious bugs in the main branch.
Bleeding Edge – master tracks. Every commit made by the development team is a new release. It could be very unstable.
All formats supported by libav can be played. For example, MKV, MOV, AVI, M2TS, etc. Movian currently uses libav version 11.
See the list of libav for supported video decoders
See the list of libav for supported audio decoders
In addition to this Movian is also able to play different music formats (not available on all platforms)
PS3: H.264 accelerated (up to level 4.2), MPEG-2. The Codecs on the PS3 cell processor do not support accelerated gaming hardware: HEVC / H265, H264 profile> 4.2, H264 high 10 (10bit), VP6, VP8, VC1 / WMV9. Movian looks for those anyway (ie decoding using the CPU).
RPI: Accelerated H.264 High Profile 10 (up to level 5.0), MPEG-4 (DivX, XviD), MPEG-2 (requires a license), VC-1 (requires a license). Accelerated GPU VP6, VP8 (SD resolutions only), MJPEG, Ogg Theora (up to 720p)
Linux: Accelerated H.264 using VDPAU (NVIDIA cards only)
OS X: Accelerated H.264
PS3: multichannel audio streams are recoded to 6 or 8 DTS / AC3 channels or any end devices they support (Limitation of PS3 in LV2)
Linux: digital passthrough of DTS, AC3, E-AC3. For PCM output up to 32 bit 192 kHz it is supported depending on the source content. Discrete multi-channel outputs are also supported.
RPI: Pass Thru on HDMI. Or 8 or 2 channel PCM output decoded software.
The Artist and the graphic album uses last.fm
The Metadata of the films (including posters) are via themoviedb.org
The TV Shows (including the posters) are searched through thetvdb.org
The search metadata can be turned on / off by folder . (Enable by default)
There is the possibility for the user to choose to have more results. A customized search query can also be entered.
DVD Subtitles and vobsub
